NUMISMATICALLY SIGNIFICANT 1857-O
The 1857-O is the final quarter eagle struck at the New Orleans mint. It is common in all grades through AU58. Nice CAC approved AU55 to AU58 pieces are available from time to time and they seem like good value to me at current levels.
This example shows deep natural green-gold color with some reddish hues outlining the portrait. While some scattered shallow ticks are seen on either side, this piece is far nicer than what is usually available for this date at this price point.
Heritage 2018 ANA: 3684 which sold for $1,920 is the sole PCGS/CAC AU55 1857-O quarter eagle to ever sell at auction.
CAC has approved 9 in this grade with 32 finer.
