NUMISMATICALLY SIGNIFICANT 1856-S IN CHOICE AU58

With the first-year-of-issue 1854-S being a major rarity and with no quarter eagles made at the San Francisco mint in 1855, for 99% of all collectors, the 1856-S represents the first obtainable issue. This is a more available date than generally assumed but properly graded AU58 coins are not easily located.

This is a simply outstanding example with deep natural green-gold color. There are a few small arks on the obverse but this coin has superior eye appeal in all respects.

No CAC approved PCGS AU58 1856-S quarter eagle has ever sold at auction and the last non-CAC piece in this grade sold for $3,360 in January 2019.

CAC has approved 14 in this grade with 12 finer.
