LOW MINTAGE 1854-C IN PCGS/CAC EF45
There were only 7,295 quarter eagles dated 1854-C produced and today this date is difficult to locate although it is a bit more available in higher grades than the 1851-C and the 1852-C. Collector grade pieces (coins priced below $5,000 in this instance) are offered infrequently and there have been only two PCGS/CAC examples in grades lower than MS60 sold at auction since 2016.
This piece has a great naked-eye appearance with mottled russet hues on both sides. Closer inspection reveals a significant scrape to the left of the shield which was obviously missed by both PCGS and CAC.
The only auction sale recorded for a PCGS/CAC EF45 1854-C was back in October 2016 when a coin sold for $3,055.
