CHOICE PCGS/CAC EF45 1851-C
This is a scarcer issue in all grades and not many finer exist than this, unless you are willing and able to write a five-figure check for a choice AU 1851-C quarter eagle.
The obverse shows rich reddish-gold color while the reverse is an even honey-gold. The strike is average for the grade with weakness seen on Liberty’s curls. There are a number of marks from circulation with the most noticeable located between the lips and the nose of Liberty.
This exact coin (see below) is the sole PCGS/CAC EF45 to sell at auction. In June 2022, Heritage sold a nice non-CAC 1851-C for $4,440.
Ex Stack’s Bowers 2019 ANA: 2049 where it brought $3,600.
CAC has approved two in this grade with seven finer.
