VERY CHOICE CAC APPROVED PCGS AU58 1850-O
The 1850-O compares closely to the 1851-O and the 1852-O in terms of its overall and high grade rarity. Choice AU58s are scarce, and the 1850-O is rare in MS62 and finer.
This is a very choice example with ample luster seen over natural medium green-gold color. The seventh star is curiously weak; this is a peculiar characteristic seen on a number of 1850-O quarter eagles. However, the overall strike is very sharp for this issue. I regard this coin as being uncommonly choice for the assigned grade.
There has been just one sale for this date in PCGS/CAC AU58 and this was back in the summer of 2016.
CAC has approved 17 in this grade with nine finer. In my opinion, these numbers are inflated by resubmissions.
