VERY CHOICE 1848-C, PCGS/CAC AU58

This is one of my personal favorites in the Star City Collection. I sold it to the collector a few years back in an NGC/CAC AU58+ holder and, in my opinion, it is certainly nice enough for the grade to merit a “plus.”

Many 1848-C quarter eagles are seen with poor strikes and this piece is a welcome exception with just a moderate bit of weakness on the eagle’s right leg. The color is terrific with deep, even green-gold color and this is a 100% unadulterated coin with more eye appeal than the limited number of MS61examples of this date that I have seen.

Heritage 2012 FUN: 6114 was a PCGS/CAC AU58+ which sold for $9,200 in a market which was far softer for high quality Charlotte quarter eagles than what we are seeing in mid-2023.

CAC has approved three in AU58 (including one in AU58+).
