VERY SCARCE PCGS/CAC AU55 1844-C QUARTER EAGLE

This lower mintage issue is seldom seen in the higher AU grades, and even less often with CAC approval. In Uncirculated, the 1844-C is a rarity with as few as six or seven extant and nearly all of those lacking CAC’s imprimatur.

This yellow-gold example with some secondary orange-gold is a bit bright but it retains a major amount of natural luster atop surfaces which lack the usual negative qualities seen on around 95% of the known 1844-C quarter eagles.

Just two PCGS/CAC AU55s have ever sold at auction (see below), with a single coin (PCGS/CAC MS61) finer which brought $18,000 in 2019.

It would be very difficult to find a better 1844-C quarter eagle than this.

Ex DLRC 3/2019 at $6,000.

CAC has approved two in this grade with five finer.

DWN collects sales tax when appropriate.
