CHOICE PCGS EF45 1841-C IN AN OLD GREEN LABEL HOLDER
I have long believed that the 1841-C is among the scarcer Charlotte quarter eagles from the early years of production at this mint.
This piece clearly appears to be nicer than its assigned grade. It is sharply struck and attractively toned in rich reddish-gold splashes. There are two small digs in the right obverse field but the coin appears to be in the AU53 to AU55 range by today’s standards.
This exact coin is the only CAC approved PCGS EF45 1841-C quarter eagle to ever sell at auction.
If you can locate a nicer 1841-C quarter eagle than this, prepare to write a five-figure check.
CAC has approved two in this grade with 19 finer.
Ex Stack’s Bowers 3/2020: 4154 where it sold for $6,600.
