Of the three branch mint quarter eagles struck during the premier year of the new Liberty Head design, the 1840-O is the one seen most often. However, nice AU coins are very scarce and this date is rare in MS60 and finer.
This coin is really choice for the grade and it faces up like a nice MS62 to MS63. The strike is sharp while the surfaces lack any significant marks.
There are three APRs for this date in PCGS/CAC AU58, with the most recent for $7,800 in 11/2020.
You will not find a nicer AU 1840-O than this!
