Old Green Holder; Gold CAC Sticker. By today’s standards I grade this coin an AU53 with a shot of grading AU55.
The 1876-CC is one of the most available Type Two double eagles from this mint along with the 1875-CC. It is common in grades up to AU55/58 but it is seen less and less often with natural color and choice surfaces.
This lovely example is the epitome of a Dirty Gold coin with rich natural golden color contrasted by darker hues on the devices. There is not a ton of wear noted and quite a bit of luster clings to the lightly abraded surfaces. Even by the standards of when this coin was grading, the EF45 range seems way conservative!
CAC has given just three gold stickers to 1876-CC double eagles: two in EF45 and one in AU50.
