The 1869 is often regarded as a common date in the Type Two series but it is actually scarce and it compares favorably to the 1870 and 1871. It is usually seen in EF45 to AU55 grades and almost never with choice, original surfaces.
This clean, lustrous example has an appearance which is suggestive of an AU50 to AU53 coin. It is frosty with some medium russet and reddish hues on the obverse and, to a greater extent, on the reverse.
Only two PCGS EF45′s have sold at auction since January 2004 with the last being in December 2009.
A good value for the newer collector.
