1862-S DOUBLE EAGLE WITH A GOLD CAC STCIKER
Housed in an old green label holder; clearly undergraded by today’s standards and at least an EF45 if not an AU50, in my opinion.
The 1862-S is a formerly scarce issue which has become more available due to its presence in the SS Republic and SS Brother Jonathan shipwrecks. Coins graded EF40 are numerically plentiful but most are unappealing due to bagmarks and weak strikes. Many have been cleaned or dipped as well. This piece shows a typical strike but it is clean and very wholesome.
No CAC gold stickered 1862-S double eagle has ever been sold. I have handled other dates in this series with gold stickers and they have sold quickly.
A neat coin with all the “bells and whistles!”
