The 1841-C is tied for fourth rarest of 24 half eagles from this mint. It is seldom seen above AU55 and it is very rare in full Mint State with no more than six or seven known to me.
This lustrous slider is struck in bright yellow-gold and shows much more luster than usual for the date. Higher grade 1841-C half eagles tend to have slightly grainy surfaces with plenty of abrasions and this is not the case on this example. It is well detailed, shows only the slightest wear and is appealing for the date.
The last PCGS AU58 1841-C half eagle to sell at auction was back in June 2007 when DLRC offered a piece for $8,395. Only four PCGS 58′s in total have sold at auction since 1999.
