Only 5,750 business strikes were coined and the 1862 is a scarce, popular issue with multiple levels of demand.
This is a very high end coin for the grade with deep, even green-gold color over choice surfaces. It is likely that this coin has never been cleaned or dipped and it is very difficult to find Civil War issues of this type with such a wholesome appearance.
The last NGC/CAC AU55 example to sell at auction was Heritage 12/13: 3872 at $4,406 and that coin lacked the excellent overall eye appeal which this coin has in spades.
