VERY NICE SLIDER 1849-C HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

Variety One.

The 1849-C is one of the more available Charlotte half eagles in the higher circulated grades. The population figures for AU58′s are misleading as many of the pieces in these holders are either overgraded or are not choice.

This choice slider has no real wear but there is enough cabinet friction on the obverse to knock this from an otherwise-deserved MS61 grade. The color is a nice light yellow gold with greenish undertones and a substantial amount of reflectiveness can be seen on both sides. A bit of weakness can be seen on the centers as is typical for the date and a few small ticks are visible in the obverse fields.

The last PCGS AU58 1849-C half eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction brought $4,888 as Heritage 3/11: 4750. An NGC AU58 without CAC approval sold for $5,875 as Heritage 12/13: 7846.

Charlotte half eagles in PCGS/CAC AU58 are not easy to locate and I have noticed an increase in demand for these issues in the last few years.

CAC has approved seven in this grade with four finer.
