Old NGC Fatty Holder. This coin was graded close to twenty years ago and what was a Gem back in the late 1980′s is still a Gem today. It has a lovely pastel orange-gold coloration pattern with the obverse a bit brighter and more vibrant in hue than the reverse. The underlying surfaces are clean and choice while the head of Liberty, an area that is often seen with weakness, has nearly full detail. A small area of deep toning in the upper left field on the obverse serves as identification. Gem Trade Dollars have always been very hard to locate and the typical coin in an MS65 holder is either bright white from having been dipped at one time or dark and unattractively toned. A great piece for the type collector and just about the nicest available quality for less than $10,000.
