RARE UNCIRCULATED 1852 HALF DOLLAR

WB-101.

Much of the mintage for this issue was melted in 1853 when the weight changed for silver coinage due to large discoveries of gold in California which drove up the price of silver. Some 1852 half dollars were saved, making this date scarce but not impossible to locate in Uncirculated.

This example is choice and very appealing with medium to deep golden pastels in similar hues on the obverse and on the reverse. A small grease stain (mint-made) in the upper right obverse field identifies this as the Coinfacts plate coin and it is a really remarkable piece for the grade.

A similar but slightly less choice PCGS MS63 recently sold for $3,760 as Heritage 2/15: 4515.

Nice circulated 1852 half dollars sell in the $1,500-2,000 range which makes this nice MS63 at twice the price a remarkably good value.
