Browning-2, R-2.
The 1825 quarter has been made confusing by PCGS’ designations but it is really rather simple. Browning-1 is an 1825/2 overdate with a widely spaced date and it is rare. Browning-2 is a jumbled 1825/4/3 overdate and it is fairly available. Browning-3 is an 1825/4/3 overdate in a later die state which is more visible as an 1825/4; it has a different reverse than B-2 with a larger 5 in the value. All 1825 quarters are rare in MS63 and higher grades.
This untoned frosty white example is notable for being an early die state with all three digits (5/4/3) clear below a glass. There is also repunching on the 8 in the date and die rust just past the 5 in the value. A few scuffs can be seen in the fields but the quality is far above average for this date and variety.
The last PCGS MS63 1825 B-2 quarter in MS63 to sell at auction was Heritage 1/13: 4100 which realized $7,638. This is the only record in this grade for over five years.
An impressive coin for the early quarter specialist or the type collector.
