While fairly available in the lowest Uncirculated grades, the 1895-O eagle is rare in properly graded MS63 and unknown finer.
This very choice, high end example shows pleasing rich natural reddish-gold and orange hues atop lustrous, lightly abraded surfaces. A few obverse marks near the first two stars limit the grade but this is an outstanding piece for the date and grade.
No CAC approved PCGS MS63 1895-O eagle has sold at auction since this coin appeared in 2011 (see below). Since then, two non-CAC PCGS MS63′s realized $9,400 as HA 2/13: 3979 and $7,931 as HA 12/13: 3870.
For all intents and purposes, this is the nicest quality available for this popular date and this coin, with all the “bells and whistles” it possesses, is perfect for even the finest collection of New Orleans eagles.
CAC has approved this one coin in MS63 with none finer.
