As with the 1892-O, 1893-O and 1895-O, the 1894-O eagle has an odd grade distribution. None of these issues saw much circulation and I have seen few 1894-O eagles that graded below AU55 to AU58. Conversely, all of these dates are rare in higher grades and almost never sencountered above MS623. Of the four issues, the 1894-O is easily the scarcest in terms of overall rarity. It used to be very rare in Uncirculated but can now be located in MS60 to MS61 due to haords from Europe. It is scarce in MS62 and very rare above this.
This is an uncommonly clean example for the date and grade with nice light green-gold and orange hues on both sides. There are just a few too many small ticks on the obverse to grade this a 63 but it is clearly as nice an MS62 as you are likely to find for this issue. The last MS63 1894-O eagle that I handled sold for over $6,000 and it was only a hair more choice than this.
CAC has approved two in this grade and two finer.
