A total of 7,036 business strike 1860 three dollar gold pieces were made and, unlike other low mintage issues from the 1870′s and 1880′s, this date was used in commerce and is not often seen in Choice Uncirculated.
This is a very choice coin for the grade with fully original medium to deep orange and green-gold color with a slightly contrasted appearance on the obverse. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are very clean with no detracting marks seen on either side.
A slightly less choice PCGS/CAC AU58 example sold for $3,525 as Heritage 3/14: 10590.
CAC has approved 11 in this grade with six finer.
