The story behind the design of this issue has been told many times and I won’t bore you with the details. Suffice to say, the 1907 High Relief is one of the most popular Trophy Coins in all of American Numismatics. It is certainly not rare but nice, affordable collector quality pieces in the MS60 to MS62 range are not easy to locate, especially with good color and choice surfaces.
This undipped medium orange-gold example would grade at least a point or two higher if it were not for some small rim ticks on the obverse from 7:00 to 9:00. These were caused by another coin being stacked atop the wire rim seen on this piece and they are not severe or even that detracting.
Four NGC MS61 1907 Wire Rim High reliefs sold at auction in 2014 with results ranging from a low of $14,100 to a high of $16,450.
