Struck in Gold Rush North Carolina to fulfill a need for a circulating gold dollar, this is an important issue for the Charlotte collector. It is numismatically significant and it is fairly easy to locate in the higher circulated grades, making it ideal for type purposes.
This choice, lustrous example shows medium russet and green-gold hues with some slightly reflective flashes in the protected areas. There is a small mint-made planchet clip on the obverse at 5:00 and some flattening of the reverse edge around 9:00. The surfaces are clean and choice and this is a solid coin for the grade with nice overall eye appeal.
The last NGC AU58 example to sell at auction was Heritage 3/11: 5106 which brought $3,220. Heritage 2/10: 1847, grade similarly, realized $3,450.
This is an issue which every collector of Charlotte gold should own.
