The 1848-D is among the more available quarter eagles from this mint. This fact and the above-average quality of strike seen on many pieces, makes this date popular with type collectors seeking a single quarter eagle from this mint.
Naturally toned in deep green-gold hues with splashes of steel-blue, this piece is attractive and choice for the grade. In fact, were the reverse a bit better struck, this coin would almost certainly have grade EF40.
The only other PCGS VF35 1848-D quarter eagle with CAC approval sold for $2,300 as Heritage 9/11: 4210.
CAC has approved just two in this grade with 11 finer.
