Along with the 1852 and 1853, the 1851 is among the most common Type One Philadelphia double eagles. I personally like the 1851 best as a type coin as it tends to be better made and it can be found with choice surfaces more regularly.
This is a very solid coin for the grade with strong claims to an AU55 rating. It is very lustrous for the grade with considerable remaining luster and nice orange-gold color which deepens at the borders.
A nice introductory coin for the collector who is just beginning to explore the fascinating world of Type One double eagles.
