The 1877-CC is one of the more common quarter dollars from the Carson City mint and it can be found from time to time in Gem. Pieces which grade MS66 and above are rare and they are very popular with type collectors looking for one spectacular example for to represent this type and mint.

This Superb Gem is characterized by deep lilac-grey toning which shades to golds and green pastels at the obverse border and outlining the device on the reverse. The surfaces are immaculate with no marks of note and the strike is as sharp as any quarter dollar you are likely to see from this facility. With just a bit more “pop” this coin would likely have graded a full MS67.

PCGS has graded five 1877-CC quarters MS66+. One non-CAC example brought $5,288 as Heritage 4/13: 1975 while another, with CAC approval, sold for $5,031 as Heritage 4/12: 3965. The outrageously toned PCGS/CAC MS67 in the Gardner collection realized an impressive $38,188 as Heritage 67/14: 30395.

This is the perfect coin for the collector who wants a truly special Seated Quarter from the fabled Carson City mint.

CAC has approved eight in MS66 or MS66+ with another three finer.
