SUPERB GEM 1862 GOLD DOLLAR

The 1862 is the most available Civil War era gold dollar. It is reasonably available even in Gem Uncirculated, although it becomes scarce in properly graded MS66 and rare above this. I think Gems are excellent values at current levels.

This pristine example is a small miracle of survival. It is immaculate and fresh in appearance with rich rose and orange-gold color atop full Mint frost. The strike is razor sharp and there are no detracting clashmarks or striations as seen on this issue.

The only significantly finer business strike 1862 gold dollar to sell at auction in recent memory was the Duckor: 4262 piece, graded MS67 by PCGS, which realized a strong $25,850.

This piece will appeal to both type collectors seeking a single Gem Type Three gold dollar and Civil War specialists.

CAC has approved 16 in this grade with eight finer.
