AMAZINGLY TONED 1852-C QUARTER EAGLE, PCGS/CAC EF45

Only 9,772 were struck and the 1852-C is a scarcer date in the Charlotte quarter eagle series with around 150 survivors. This date is rarely seen with nice color as most have been dipped and/or processed.

This piece shows exceptional deep reddish-gold hues across much of the obverse and the reverse. It is relatively well struck for the issue and the eye appeal is exceptional. There is a small dig on the obverse at the outside of star three and a reverse scrape over the E in UNITED.

The last PCGS EF45 1852-C quarter eagle to sell at auction realized $2,820 as Goldberg 6/14: 1690. Only three PCGS EF45 examples of this date have sold at auction since 2004.

If you appreciate exceptional deep, natural color then you will love this coin!

CAC has approved 4 in this grade with 5 finer.

ex Stacks Bowers 2/12: 7305 where it sold cheaply at $2,588; earlier Lot 166 in Bowers and Merena's sale of the Harry Einstein Collection, June 1986.
