THE FIRST OF A PAIR OF OGH 1861 DOUBLE EAGLES

Housed in an old green label PCGS holder and, in my opinion, a solid EF45 to AU50 by today's standards.

The high mintage 1861 is one of the two most available Type One double eagles along with the 1857-S. Its Civil War issuance ensures the popularity of this date.

Both sides are toned to a deep russet shade with some contrast on the highlights. This coin was likely stored in Europe and it appears to have never been brightened or enhanced.

The last "normal" non-CAC 1861 double eagle to sell at auction in a PCGS EF40 holder brought $1,821 in April 2016.

An affordable Type One double eagle but with enough character to be a proud member of the RYK Collection.

CAC has approved 9 in this grade with 442 finer.
