Housed in an old green label PCGS holder; in my opinion, this coin grades AU50 by today's standards. please note that this coin was slabbed prior to PCGS designating this issue by variety.
The 1854 Small Date is far more available than its Large Date counterpart. Within the context of Philadelphia Type One issues, it is less available than the 1851-1853 dates.
This obviously original example shows nice orange-gold color which deepens at the borders. The surfaces are free of significant marks and there is evident luster on the obverse and the reverse.
A similar quality OGH 1854 Small Date $20 graded EF45 by PCGS sold for $3,055 as Stacks Bowers 2015 ANA: 1345.
CAC has approved 6 in this grade with 107 finer.
