UNDERVALUED PCGS/CAC 1859 EAGLE GRADED EF45(OGH)
Housed in an old green label PCGS holder and, in my opinion, a solid AU50 by today's standards.
The 1859 eagle is a much underappreciated date (as are the half eagle and double eagle of this date/mint) with an estimated population of fewer than 150 known. This is a difficult date to locate with natural color and choice surfaces.
This is a highly original piece with deep russet color overlaid with orange-gold. It is a bit weakly struck on the star radials but the overall detail is very acceptable for the issue.
Only two PCGS EF45 1859 eagles have sold at auction since 2011 and both were non-CAC. The more recent of the two offerings brought $1,175 as Heritage 7/15: 4536.
This is the only 1859 eagle in EF45 to earn CAC approval; five finer have been stickered as well.
