NICE OGH/CAC 1840 EAGLE GRADED EF45 BY PCGS
Housed in an old green label holder; in my opinion, this coin grades AU53 by today's standards.
The 1840 is an underappreciated date which is much harder to locate in AU50 and higher grades than one might expect. It is even harder to find with natural color and choice surfaces.
This wholesome example shows deep russet toning with a touch of vault dirt seen on the relief details. Other than a cluster of marks in the right obverse field the surfaces are much less "marky" than normal.
A non-CAC approved 1840 eagle graded PCGS EF45 and in an old green label holder brought $2,115 as Stacks Bowers 2016 ANA: 3294.
CAC has approved 4 in this grade with 4 finer.
