The 1843 is among the most available early issue No Motto half eagles but it becomes scarce in properly graded MS63 and it is very rare approaching the Gem level.
This is an incredibly well struck piece with all details up and bold below attractive dusky natural honey-gold color. A few small marks clustered near the throat of Liberty preclude a higher grade but it would be difficult to imagine a nicer coin than this in an MS63 holder.
Only two PCGS MS63 1843 half eagles have sold at auction since 2010 and both of these realized $8,813. Neither was approved by CAC.
If you were able to locate a nice PCGS MS64 example of this date yo'd have to spend around $20,000.
CAC has approved three in this grade with two finer (both MS64).
