Winter 46-EE, a very rare variety.
The recent (6/26) Heritage auction proved the current strength of the Dahlonega half eagle market. This was especially true for PCGS/CAC coins which were accurately graded. You’ll be spending at least $12,500 for a common date D mint $5 in PCGS/CAC AU58 (yikes!) and I’m not sure if I like these coins at that level.
But this nice AU55—not endorsed by CAC but clearly finer than many comparable example with a sticker—still seems reasonable as it is choice and it is a really scarce variety as well.
