A much scarcer date than the 1849-D at just a small premium. Nice AU 1853-D dollars aren’t readily available, especially with nice surfaces and good color.
This russet-gold example has typical striking weakness at the central obverse but shows plenty of natural mint luster.
No PCGS AU53s have sold at auction since early 2020, when a piece which was inferior to this brought $3,480.
A nice coin at the popular sub-$4k price point.
