PCGS MS61 1853-C GOLD DOLLAR

The Charlotte mint produced the Type One gold dollar for just five years, and the 1853-C is the third scarcest of these, after the 1850-C and the 1849-C.

This is an unequivocally “new” coins with no wear and frosty yellow-gold surfaces which exhibit a few light wispy lines.

There have been no PCGS MS61 1853-C gold dollars sold at auction since 2019, while two typical quality NGC MS61s brought $5,520 and $5,760 in 11/2023 and 11/2022, respectively.

This would make a nice alternative to the more common 1851-C and 1852-C dates for inclusion in a Charlotte type set.
