AFFORDABLE CACG MS61 1851-C GOLD DOLLAR
By a considerable amount, the 1851-C is the most available Charlotte gold dollar in any grade. While a number are known in the lower MS grades (60 to 62), this date is challenging in MS63, and gems are quite rare.
This piece is sharply defined with few marks beneath frosty luster. The color is a very natural yellow-gold while the overall appearance is quite pleasing for a coin that is graded MS61.
It has been a number of years since a PCGS MS61has sold at auction and a quick run through my database shows that the last PCGS/CAC I sold was a full decade ago (!).
CACG has graded this one in MS61 with one finer: an MS65.
