As with the 1902 and the 1905, the 1906 double eagle is seen more often in Uncirulated grades through MS63 more regularly than it was a decade or so ago due to repatriated hoards. This date remains scarce in MS64, and Gems are rare (plus they run around $30k if you are lucky enough to locate one).
This yellow-gold example is choice for the grade with very few detracting marks seen in the obverse fields or on Liberty’s cheek.
The sole comparable auction sale is the Heritage 5/2022: 5131 coin at $9,600.
CAC has approved 19 in this grade with 11 finer.
