1878-S $20 GRADED MS62+ BY PCGS
The 1878-S is a reasonably easy issue to locate in the lower Uncirculated grades, but it becomes scarce in MS63, and it is currently unique in MS64 with the sole PCGS coin selling for a hefty $43,200 in January, 2020.
This frosty orange-gold example shows some light marks in the obverse fields and there are a few wispy lines across the central obverse. A very faint mint-made copper spot adjacent to the third star on the obverse is mentioned solely for identification.
There have been four auction sales of this date in PCGS MS62+ since the beginning of 2020, with the two most recent APRs for non-CACs at $4,800 (1/2020), and $4,080 (also 1/2020).
