While more available in MS62 than the 1875-S and 1876-S issues, the 1874-S $20 is seen more often in this grade than the 1871-S, 1872-S, and the two 1873-S varieties. It is quite rare in MS63 with a current PCGS population of just three, with none finer.
This piece is 100% natural in appearance with crisp lemon-gold hues over frosty, lightly abraded surfaces. A small scrape on the shield is likely the only thing keeping this high-end 1874-S from being CAC approved.
Nine APRs for PCGS MS62 examples are noted since 2020 with three CAC coins and six non-CACs.
With an MS63 likely costing around $30,000, this nice coin seems like great value at around one-sixth the price.
