NICE PCGS MS61 1860-S $20

As a result of the Fairmont Hoard, the population of MS61/MS62 1860-S double eagles has risen significantly. In 2014, PCGS had graded 11 in MS61 with 9 finer. A decade later, the population is 21 in MS61 with 14 finer. While many of these 10 new MS61 coins have been nice, the CAC population is still just three in this grade.

This is a coin which is clearly not from the Fairmont Hoard. It has a nice, natural appearance but it is not as crusty. The surfaces are nearly free of marks and the strike is razor sharp.

Four APRs for PCGS MS61 1860-S double eagles have been recorded since early 2022, with every single one of them at $9,600. A PCGS/CAC MS62 sold for $36,000 in April, 2022.
