CHOICE CAC APPROVED PCGS EF45 1810 HALF EAGLE

BD-4; Large Date, Large 5.

The 1810 Large Date, Large 5 is among the most available of all pre-1834 half eagles which makes it an ideal entry-level early gold coin for the new collector. While relatively common in the EF40-AU50 range, very few survivors have truly good eye appeal.

This is a textbook Choice EF Capped Bust Left half eagle with a distinctive two-tone appearance due to deep reddish-gold toning towards the edges which contrasts the lighter relief details. The surfaces are very clean while the detail is suggestive of an AU50. This is a wonderfully wholesome early half eagle.

No PCGS EF45s have sold since 2013. In June 2021, a PCGS AU50 brought $9,600, while another coin realized $8,700 in July 2022. Neither was approved by CAC.

You can buy an inferior washed-out EF45 or AU50 Capped Bust Left half eagle for less money, or you can stretch a bit and proudly own a piece of early Americana with character! I know which option I would choose…

CAC has approved just two in this grade with 61 finer.
