A DWN FAVORITE; PCGS/CAC 1859 $20 IN EF40
The 1859 is my favorite P mint Type One $20 and I regard this as the single scarcest Type One issue from this mint (excepting, of course the exceedingly rare 1861 Paquet).
This piece is more worn than usual for this issue but it is also less baggy than the typical 1859 $20. Both sides show appealing russet color with some reddish hues seen at the central reverse.
The only PCGS/CAC EF40 to ever sell at auction is this exact coin which brought $6,300 as Stack’s Bowers 2018 ANA: 4438.
I doubt that another nice PCGS/CAC 1859 $20 will come available any time soon at this price point.
CAC has approved just this one coin in EF40 with 16 finer.
