While seen in circulated grades more regularly than in the past, a nice AU55 1880-O eagle is nothing to sneeze at. It remains a rare and fully priced issue in MS60 and finer.
This piece has a natural appearance with golden-orange hues seen over fairly lustrous surfaces. There are a few detracting abrasions seen in the obverse fields and there is a small shiny spot over the first 8 in the date.
This exact coin (see below) is one of just three graded AU55 by PCGS/CAC to sell at auction. The others brought $5,760 (3/2023) and $5,640 (1/2017).
