COLLECTOR GRADE 1855-O $10
The 1855-O is among the scarcer No Motto eagles from New Orleans. Choice examples priced at under $5,000 are all but unheard of and we have the Fairmont hoard to than for the availability of this piece.
The obverse is choice and looks close to a full EF40 in terms of its naked-eye appearance; the reverse is not well struck and this gives the appearance of a coin with loads of wear. Both sides are free of detracting marks and the color is a pleasing russet and green-gold.
There are five APRs for this date in PCGS VF30 since early 2007, but this exact coin (see below) is the sole 1855-O in this grade with CAC approval.
Ex Stack’s Bowers 2018 ANA: 4215 where it sold for $3,360.
