1890-CC $20.00 NGC AU55 CAC

Extremely lustrous and very nice toned with splashes of subtle coppery-rose color on the obverse; the reverse is more uniform in its appearance. There are a few scattered ticks that limit the grade but this piece compares favorably, in my opinion, to many CC double eagles in AU58 holders. The 1890-CC is one of the more common double eagles from this mint which makes it ideal for type purposes.

1890-CC $20.00 NGC AU58 CAC

This very lightly worn CC double eagle shows very clean surfaces for the date and grade. Both the obverse and rerverse are lustrous and show pleasing orange-gold and rose color. In my opinion, this choice, clean example is preferable the typical MS60 to MS61 example that might have a bit more lustrous but which also has many more abrasions and less eye appeal. The 1890-CC is one of the more available double eagles from this mint and the lack of date premium ascribed to this issue makes it ideal for type purposes.

1890-CC $20.00 PCGS AU58

This lustrous slider is free of noticeable wear but does show just a bit too much friction in the obverse fields to qualify as a Mint State coin. That said, with its nice light rose and orange-gold hues, it has tremendous eye appeal. The most prominent mark is a small scrape between stars eleven and twelve on the obverse. The 1890-CC is the most available CC double eagle from this decade and its affordability in comparably high grades makes it of interest to the type collector.

1890-CC $20.00 NGC AU55 CAC

This is a textbook AU55 Carson City double eagle with lovely natural reddish-gold and green-gold coloration atop very clean and lustrous surfaces. Unlike so many examples of this date, this is a coin that has never been dipped and which is free of all but the smallest scuffs. Really a premium quality example and a perfect coin for the type collector looking for a high end single example for his set.

1890-CC $20.00 NGC AU55 CAC

The obverse is just a bit on the reflective side with some hints of PL surface in the fields; the reverse is a bit more satiny. Both sides show nice light rose color and are very clean for the date and grade. This piece is so well-made and so free of obvious abrasions that it would make a perfect piece for the type collector or the new CC double eagle buyer who wants a choice, appealing frosty example for a reasonable price.
