1864 $20.00 NGC AU53 CAC

While not as hard to obtain as the 1862 or 1863, the 1864 is another Civil War issue from Philadelphia that is not often seen. This example is absolutely original with lovely green-gold and rose color atop thick, unbroken natural "skin." A few ticks in the left obverse field limit the grade but this coin has the body and eye appeal of others that I have seen graded AU55. It is very similar in overall quality to Heritage 6/11: 4905 (graded AU53 by PCGS and approved by CAC) that just brought $5,750. This is one of the nicer 1864 double eagles that I have owned in a while.
