NICE CAC APPROVED PCGS EF40 1861-S $10

The 1861-S is the most available of the six San Francisco eagles produced during the Civil War.

This light orange-gold example is lustrous for the assigned grade and unlike many 1861-S eagles in the EF40 to AU53 range, it is not all scrubby. The strike is solid for the issue while the surfaces are quite choice. Overall, this is an unusually appealing example for the grade.

No PCGS EF40s have sold at auction since 9/2019, when the ex Eliasberg: 715 coin (a net graded AU53/55 with a gaping gouge in the right obverse field) still brought a strong $8,700.

Ex Heritage 9/2013: 5263 where it sold for $8,225.

CAC has approved two in this grade with 14 finer.
