PROBLEM-FREE COLLECTOR GRADE 1860-S F15 HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL
The 1860-S half eagle is scarcer than its mintage of 21,200 suggests. There are likely not more than 70 or so known in total, with most in the VF-EF range. AU coins are very scarce and there are just two known in Uncirculated: a PCGS/CAC MS61 which is plated on the PCGS website, and a PCGS MS62 which is ex Bass and Eliasberg.
This is a problem-free example which is clean and evenly worn. The color is completely natural and the detail is excellent for the grade.
This exact coin is the sole PCGS/CAC F15 1860-S half eagle to ever sell at auction.
CAC has approved a total of 27 in all grades with one in F15 and 22 finer.
