A NICE 1845-D HALF EAGLE GRADED AU55 BY NGC WITH CAC APPROVAL
Due to its relative availability in all circulated grades, the 1845-D is a date whcih gets no price premium over the common 1852-1854 half eagles from this mint. In my opinion, the 1845-D provides a better option than any of these three issues as it is better made.
This is a pleasing coin for the grade with autumnal honey-gold surfaces. Typically, I prefer AU55’s to show some more luster than this piece sports but I’ll take its originality and overall eye appeal.
Stacks Bowers 8/2025: 3030 was the last CAC approved AU55 1845-D $5 to sell at auction. It brought $8,100. A non-CAC NGC AU5 sold for $6,710 as Heritage 2026 CSNS: 4116.
CAC has approved nine in AU55 with a dozen finer.
